Geological survey of Pakistan team had visited Head of Operations (ORIC) on 11 November, 2020. The delegate was headed by director along with his team. During the meeting various prospects of collaboration were discussed to support both the institutions. The Geological team appreciated the efforts of ORIC department and expressed their willingness to collaborate for future endeavors.

Course Overview:
Sustainable development is a relatively new field in research that brings together diverse and often contradictory environmental, socio-political and economic problems. Some of the most frequently asked questions are – how to achieve economic growth without negatively affecting the environment, as well as what are the benefits to society of economic progress and threats to environmental balance? It is in response to these and other questions that modern science seeks possible solutions and offers different ways of qualitative and quantitative assessment of the degree of sustainable development achieved.
In this course the theme of sustainable business transformation from a current perspective with a focus on what it actually means, how it is applied, and what are the actual results achieved were approached. Sustainability was discussed from the perspective of income inequality on a global level and particularly in Europe.
Two day online course on “Governing the Market to Create New Comparative Advantages” by Dr Mustafa Erdoğdu
A two day online course on the topic ‘Governing the Market to create new comparative advantage’ was organized by Office of Research, Innovation & commercialization in collaboration with Department of Accounting & Finance on 26th & 27th Nov, 2020 for the capacity building of faculty and students. The course was conducted by the honorable Professor Dr. Mustafa Erdoğdu,Head of Financial Economics and Professor of Economics at Marmara University Turkey. The course consisted of two sessions.

Visit: German Ambassador ‘Schlagheck’ & Head of the Press and Cultural Section ‘Mrs. Christine Rosenberger’ to Pakistan
German Ambassador; Schlagheck and Head of the Press and Cultural Section; Mrs. Christine Rosenberger, visited Lahore on Monday 2nd March at Kinnaird College for Women. The visit resulted in having an interaction with the Principal, Vice Principal and the students to discuss the prospects of opportunities for Young Women in Academia and aspire them to plans for future goals.

Seminar on Innovative Techniques in Livestock and Aquaculture-3rd February 2020
One day Seminar on “Innovative Techniques in Livestock and Aquaculture” was organized by Department of Zoology and Department of Food Sciences & Human Nutrition in collaboration with Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization on 3rd February 2020. The speaker “Prof Dr. Athar Mahmud-Chairman Department of Poultry production-UVAS” discussed the New Trends in Ostrich and Broiler farming and the Misconceptions regarding Broiler Meat. “Prof. Dr. Shahzad Naveed Jadoon-Director/CEO All Tech Pakistan Pvt Ltd, Islamabad” shared the information about the Alltech Aqua Value Creation Model and discussed Alltech’s mission to improve the health and performance of animals, plants and people through nutrition and scientific innovation..
Interactive Session with Professor Samina Yasmeen- ‘Centre for Muslim States and Societies’ at the University of Western Australia
ORIC hosted an Interactive Session of the students and faculty with Professor Samina Yasmeen in Kinnaird, she is an expert in political and strategic development in South Asia and the role of Islam in World Politics.
Professor Yasmeen has conducted extensive research on the position of Pakistani and Middle Eastern Women, the role of Muslims in Australia, and India–Pakistan relations. She is also the founder of the ‘Centre for Muslim States and Societies’ at the University of Western Australia (UWA) – which focuses on better understanding the beliefs and practices of Muslim states and communities in the Indian Ocean region.

Organized: Awareness Seminar on ‘CORONA – A LIFE THREATENING VIRUS’ 25th February, 2020.
Department of Environmental Sciences, in Collaboration with ORIC- Kinnaird College For Women conducted a seminar to raise awareness on “CORONA: A LIFE THREATENING VIRUS” on February 25, 2020.
Major Dr. Ayesha, Speaker of the Seminar and Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman, Head Virology and Infectious Diseases at Chughtai LAB addressed the students and faculty members. Addressing to the audience, Major Dr. Ayesha told that novel corona virus, which is a respiratory virus, is causing worldwide panic.
Corona viruses are a large family of viruses causing illnesses from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Coronaviruses cause upper respiratory infections. Most people can confuse their symptoms with that of regular cold or flu virus.
Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman in his lecture told about the measures to lessen the risk of virus infection; We should clean our hands with water and soap properly when coughing and sneezing cover nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow, avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death, Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman added.
Organized: Academia-Industry Linkages Symposium “Activate Your Innovation” 27th February, 2020.
Strong linkage between industrial sector and academia is the most vital tool to wrestle the key economic challenges of Pakistan. It would also help, create new occupational models that are rapidly gaining the grounds all over the world.
This was crux of the speeches delivered by the experts from industry and academia while speaking a brainstorming session on ‘Academia -Industry Linkages Symposium’: “Activate your Innovation” at Kinnaird College For Women.
Convener LCCI Standing Committee on Industry-Academia Linkage Umer Saleem, Vice President (FCCPI) Mian Anjum Nisar, Prof. Sajjad from Indus Foundation and Miss Rozy Rizvi from Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) along with the representatives of 5 universities express their views on the occasion. LCCI Guests called for a strategy that how knowledge and research of academia could be beneficial for the industry.
Students from Bio Technology, Food Sciences and Business Studies present their ideas in front of the judges (industry representatives).

Interactive session with Ms Christine Gozdziak (University of Illinois)-24th January 2020
A one day seminar was organized by Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization on 24th January 2020. Ms Christine Gozdziak – Assistant Dean of International Programs, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign discussed the opportunities for Pakistani students to pursue their masters or PhD degree at the University of Illinois. Ms. Christine Gozdziak gave a brief introduction of her university and the facilities present in the University of Illinois for the International students. The talk was followed by an interactive session between the guest and the students and faculty of Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. At the end of the seminar, Ms Christine Gozdziak was presented with a shield by the Academic Dean – ‘Dr Urusa Fahim’ as a token of appreciation.
