Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization and Kinnaird Business Incubation Center, Kinnaird College for Women organized it’s “Kinnaird’s 4th International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities” from 26th to 28th  February 2024. The scope of the conference covered all aspects of Social Sciences and Humanities. More than 400 papers from about 50 National and International Universities were presented in about 40 Technical Sessions in the 1-day conference.

Principal Kinnaird College, Dr Rukhsana David has given the closing remarks regarding the overall event and shared her thoughts on Kinnaird College for women excelling in Social Sciences and Humanities. Certificates were distributed among the presenters and participants. And awards were distributed among the chief guests, guests and involved departments of Kinnaird College.

Berlin Startup Ecosystem: Expansion Program for Pakistani Startups to Berlin and Europe” by Dr. Dr. Talat Mahmood focused on fostering collaboration and growth opportunities between the startup ecosystems of Berlin and Pakistan, particularly for Pakistani startups looking to expand their presence in Europe. Dr. Talat Mahmood’s program aimed to bridge the gap between these two vibrant startup ecosystems by providing Pakistani startups with access to resources, mentorship, networkin opportunitie and funding channels available in Berlin and Europe. The program’s overarching goal is to facilitate knowledge exchange, innovation, and cross-border partnerships that benefit both regions. The speaker shared invaluable insights on expanding Pakistani startup into the European and German markets. This is an amazing opportunity for young entrepreneurs to receive strategic advice and insight from an experienced industry professional.

Successful Startups of 2nd Cohort 2024

With the generous support of Higher Education Commission, Kinnaird ORIC and Business Incubation Center in Kinnaird College for Women (KCW), Lahore – Pakistan has been established and now working successfully towards providing support to researchers and young entrepreneurs who are interested in developing early-stage business ventures. Kinnaird Business Incubation Center launches its 2nd Cohort of 18 STARTUPS (7 Physical & 11 Virtual) (as per HEC’s guidelines & policy) on 12th June 2024 and its routine working started on 13th June 2024.

A seminar paving the Path- Transforming ADR in Pakistan on Sep 19, 2024

The Law Department organized with the collaboration of ORIC a seminar titled ‘Paving the Path- Transforming ADR in Pakistan’ on the future of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Pakistan. U.S. Department of State, Fulbright Specialist & Emory University, Center for the Study of Law & Religion, Senior Fellow CSLR, Dr. Jo D. Chitlik recently had the opportunity to lecture on Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR at the Nadira Hassan Law Department, at Kinnaird Women’s College, in Lahore, Pakistan by invitation of her esteemed colleague & fellow Fulbrighter, Ms. Shaffaf Shahid Latif. Dr. Jo shared the stage with her beloved friend, Pakistani attorney Sibah Farooq & Pakistani author, Rana Rizwan Hussain, an authority in arbitration. The beautiful grounds of Kinnaird College set the idilic stage for Nadira Hassan’s Law Department to train the future Pakistani female leaders of tomorrow the guest speakers included Dr. Jo Chitlik, LL.M, esq., a renowned expert in ADR and a Fulbright Specialist, and Sibah Farooq, an international lawyer.

A seminar of Kinnaird IEEE Students 21, Sep 2024

Kinnaird IEEE Student Branch held a seminar, Scholarly Steps, to guide the students of semester 5 and semester 7 about the rising trends in the market and how to align their FYP according to these trends. Mr. Muhmmad Sufian shared his insights on various market trends along with the key skills interviewers look for in an applicant. He gave a detailed step-by-step guidance on how to work on the FYP while keeping in view the market trends. Moreover, Mr. Rizwan Naqvi opened a world of FYP funding opportunities for the students. He gave a detailed explanation and tutorial on how to apply for different funding opportunities through IEEE membership. The seminar was very insightful for the students. We are grateful to both the speakers for imparting such valuable information to our students.

The students of Computer Science Department with the collaboration of ORIC & BIC went to the BPO and Tech Career Expo at NASTP Delta Lahore on 25th September. They discovered many opportunities in the industry and interacted with industry professionals. Learning about industry demands and the hiring procedure, our students dropped their CVs at many companies and perfectly utilized the opportunities presented by this expo.

Department of environmental sciences organized annual tutorial 2024 “Sustainability for a Thriving Future” with the collaboration of ORIC. The mission of the Environmental Club is to promote environmental awareness, and community engagement among students, faculty, and staff at Kinnaird College for Women. We aim to inspire individual and collective action to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship on campus and beyond.

Two days Industrial tour of K&N’s 29-30th Oct, 2024

Food Science Department with the collaboration of ORIC & BIC has organized an educational visit to K&N’s Food processing plant, a leading poultry and processed food manufacturer. The facility showcased advanced production techniques and stringent quality control measures that ensure product safety and consistency. During the tour, we observed the entire processing workflow, from raw ingredient handling to packaging. The use of modern technology, including automated systems and hygiene protocols, was impressive and underscored K&N’s commitment to food safety. We also learned about their sustainability initiatives, such as waste reduction and energy efficiency practices. The visit provided valuable insights into the food processing industry and highlighted K&N’s role in promoting high-quality, nutritious food products. Overall, it was an educational experience that deepened our understanding of food production standards and practices.

Celebrating White Cane Day at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore 04 Oct, 2024

Kinnaird College celebrated the White Cane Day on 04 Oct, 2024 .The mission of White Cane Day is to promote awareness of visual impairment.  It is also a time to celebrate the abilities and successes achieved by people with visual impairments in a sighted world and to honor the many contributions being made by the blind and visually impaired.  In addition, White Cane Day provides an opportunity to demonstrate to the world some of the ways in which individuals who are visually impaired live and work independently, while giving back to their communities.

 

Kinnaird Business Fest October 23-25, 2024

The Kinnaird Entrepreneurial Club (KEC) with the collaboration of ORIC conducted the Kinnaird Business Fest from October 23-25, 2024. Leading Universities from all over Pakistan competed in 7 business competitions in the areas of Competitive Market analysis, Startup ideation, Advertising, Social Media & Creative writing. External judges were invited from various leading industries and a special talk on Digital Marketing was delivered by Yasser Anwar. It was a highly engaging event for student learning and practical exposure. There were plenty of fun activities too including a large variety of food stalls, an open mike and light musical to wrap it up.

Kashmir Black Day- 27 Oct, 2024

The History and Political Science Club with the collaboration of ORIC organized a “Kashmir Black Day” event at Kinnaird College to commemorate the sad incidence of Indian forces’ intrusion into valley on 27th October, 1947. The program featured a recitation, speeches by students on human rights, a Kashmiri song performance, and an in-depth lecture. Small group discussions were also held to deepen students understanding of the escalated conflict.

The Department of Biotechnology at Kinnaird College for Women, recently organized an insightful seminar on ‘Fighting Future Pandemics: Innovations in Rapid Vaccine Development,’ with Dr. Sumaira Anjum as our focal person. A Session on Visionary Voices with IEEE Young Professionals 31st Oct, 2024

The IEEE Kinnaird Student Branch and the Department of Computer Science recently hosted the “Visionary Voices with Young Professionals” event in collaboration with ORIC, supported by a $600 grant from IEEE R10 and Young Professionals.

The event brought together over 300 students, faculty, and young professionals to inspire and empower future leaders through keynote talks, workshops, and competitions.

  • Keynote Talks:

○ Celebrating IEEE’s Legacy by Ms. Asma Basharat, highlighting IEEE’s 140 years of innovation and its role in shaping the future of technology.

○ Pursuing Higher Education Abroad by Mr. Ali Gohar, offering guidance on Navigating postgraduate studies overseas.

○ Empowering Women in the Workforce by Ms. Faryal Fahim, discussing gender equality in tech and entrepreneurship.

  • Competitions & Workshops:

○ Canva Poster Competition on SDGs, where students designed posters

Miss Sidra Ijaz attended Visionary Voices with IEEE Young Professionals as the judge of Canva Poster Competition. Through her excellent skills and knowledge she judged the creative masterpieces made by the students. It was an honor having her with us.

Such an inspiring keynote by Yaser Awan on securing your first job.He didn’t just share the latest industry trends, but also gave real advice on handling workplace challenges and adjusting to today’s work culture. His insights left students feeling prepared and motivated to start their career journey with confidence.

Ali Gohar provided valuable insights into pursuing higher education abroad. He walked students through the application process and highlighted a range of scholarship opportunities to consider. His guidance offered a practical roadmap for those looking to study internationally.

Kinnaird F&N Club organized Annual tutorial with the collaboration of ORIC & BIC on Wellness Unleashed: Yoga & Nutrition essentials. In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining good health often feels like an uphill battle. We’re constantly juggling work, family, and endless responsibilities, leaving little time to focus on our well-being. For many, the idea of leading a healthier life seems complicated, overwhelming, or simply unattainable. But in my opinion, the most important thing that we sometimes ignore is our health. If we are healthy, we can do anything we want to do in life. And for that purpose, I have given practical strategies to achieve physical & mental wellness.

Canva poster competition on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 31st Oct, 2024(Thursday)

The CS Department organized a Canva poster competition on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in collaboration with ORIC. We received an overwhelming response with 259 entries from across all departments. Congratulations to our winner Shereen Shahid, 5th semester IR Department, for her outstanding poster design. This initiative was specifically designed to raise awareness about SDGs among our student community and encourage their creative engagement with global sustainability challenges.

Today was its prize distribution ceremony and it featured distinguished speakers:

A training workshop entitled "From Theory to Practice: EIA Guidance and Experiences” on November 6th, 2024

The Department of Environmental Sciences with collaboration of ORIC organized a training workshop entitled “From Theory to Practice: EIA Guidance and Experiences”, led by an experienced EIA expert Mr. Abid Saleem on November 6th, 2024. The session, provided students with an in-depth understanding and practical application of Environmental Impact Assessment process. Case studies from Pakistan were used to illustrate key challenges and issues faced in developmental projects. The session featured interactive discussions and lessons drawn from various projects under the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework, providing practical tips for conducting effective EIAs in Pakistan. The speaker also highlighted common pitfalls and shared strategies for addressing them.

Kinnaird ORIC and Business Incubation organized a training session on “Legal Considerations and Company Registration process” on Monday, 11th Nov 2024, from 10 am to 11:00 am for its 2nd Cohort 2024.Mr. Muhammad Abid shared his sights on cooperative and non-cooperative organization as well as provide the guidance about complete process of registration and when they should legally registered their startups. The session was very insightful for the incubates.

1st scientific session of the 15th International Conference of Pakistan Psychological Association was held at Kinnaird College for Women on 8th November, 2024 with the collaboration of ORIC. A workshop on Forensic Psychology 06 November, 2024

Department of Psychology conducted a workshop on Forensic Psychology with the collaboration of ORIC by Ms. Saira Majid on November 6th 2024 was specifically arranged for semester 7 students. Ms. Saira Majid provide guideline that how Forensic psychologists apply psychological theory to investigation to help understand psychological problems associated with human behavior, and the treatment of those who have committed offences.
