Department of Environmental Sciences, in Collaboration with ORIC- Kinnaird College For Women conducted a seminar to raise awareness on “CORONA: A LIFE THREATENING VIRUS” on February 25, 2020.
Major Dr. Ayesha, Speaker of the Seminar and Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman, Head Virology and Infectious Diseases at Chughtai LAB addressed the students and faculty members. Addressing to the audience, Major Dr. Ayesha told that novel corona virus, which is a respiratory virus, is causing worldwide panic.
Corona viruses are a large family of viruses causing illnesses from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
Coronaviruses cause upper respiratory infections. Most people can confuse their symptoms with that of regular cold or flu virus.
Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman in his lecture told about the measures to lessen the risk of virus infection; We should clean our hands with water and soap properly when coughing and sneezing cover nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow, avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death, Professor Doctor Waheed uz Zaman added.
